Digital Signature certificate (DSC) is an electronic signature that is issued by the specific authority with the intention of authenticating and verifying the identity of the holder. In Indi various purposes for which DSC are mandatorily used includes Annual Return, Company or LLP Incorporation, Income Tax E-Filing, E-Tenders, etc. The digital signature certificate consists of the details of the holder like user’s name, pin code, country, email address, date of issuance of certificate and name of the certifying authority.

What are the three types of DSC?

​

  • Class 1 DSC: This DSC is used for protecting the communication on through mail.

  • Class 2 Certificates: These DSC are used for the purpose of e-filing with the Registrar of Companies (ROC). While filing the returns DSC are required to sign the manual documents.

  • Class 3 Certificates: For online participation/bidding in e-auctions and online tenders anywhere in India DSC class are required.
